Description
This smoked glass pendant light pairs a gray smoked glass sphere with a black metal fitting. The darkened tint softens the bulb and turns the light into a dense glow, almost amber at its core. Four diameters, from 6 to 12 in (15 to 30 cm), let you use it alone over a side table or in a row over an island. It will appeal to people who love graphic interiors, where glass and black answer dark wood and stone.
Design & materials of a smoked grey glass pendant light
The globe of this ball glass pendant light is tinted a deep smoky gray. Off, it reflects the room like a dark mirror; lit, it reveals the bulb through the glass, surrounded by a warm halo. A black metal fitting caps the sphere and meets the cord, in a design reduced to two shapes: the circle and the line. This smoked glass pendant slips into a contemporary kitchen as easily as a warm-toned living room. Smoked glass calms the sparkle of filament bulbs and adds depth to dark walls, marble and walnut.
The light
The socket takes an E27 bulb, not included, and the fixture is not dimmable. Smoked glass absorbs part of the light output: it creates a hushed mood rather than task lighting. An LED filament bulb at 2200 to 2700 K stays visible through the sphere and heightens the ember effect. If the globe lights a kitchen counter, choose a brighter 3000 K LED, or add under-cabinet lighting.
Where to hang a smoked glass pendant light
Over a 71 in (180 cm) island, line up three 10 in (25 cm) globes spaced 24 in (60 cm) apart. Over a round table, a single 12 in (30 cm) globe is enough and becomes the focal point of the room. As a pendant light in smoked glass by the bed, drop a 6 or 8 in (15 or 20 cm) globe beside the bed, at shoulder height. Glass makes the globe heavier than a fabric shade: fix the hook into an anchor suited to your ceiling, and do not rely on unreinforced drywall for the larger sizes. Switch off the breaker before wiring and call an electrician if in doubt. Over a table or island, keep 26 to 31 in (65 to 80 cm) between the bottom of the globe and the top.
Care
With the lamp off and cool, wipe the globe with a slightly damp microfiber cloth, then dry to avoid streaks. An ammonia-free glass cleaner is fine on the glass. Dust the metal dry. Hold the globe steady while cleaning so you do not strain the fitting.

Great for a bachelor pad
Dark walls, leather sofa, black shelving, and this smoked globe ties it all together. I went with the 12 inch over the coffee table area. Got a mate who's an electrician to wire it in, said it was a simple job. Put in a warm LED filament bulb and the glow looks like whisky in a glass. couldnt be more my style.

We spent ages choosing between clear and smoked glass and I'm so glad we went smoked. Clear would have shown every bit of the bulb whereas this gives a hazy, softer look. It's above a small round bistro table in our kitchen and makes the corner feel like its own little spot. The metal fitting at the top is sleek and black, no fuss.

Bedside pendants
We dropped two of the 8 inch beside the bed instead of lamps. With warm filament bulbs they give off this soft glow that's perfect for winding down at night.

I'm a big fan of moody interiors, dark walls and low lighting everywhere, and this pendant is the most on-brand thing I've ever bought. I've got the 12 inch hanging over the round table in my dining nook, and I chose an extra warm filament bulb because of the suggestion on the page. The result is honestly better than I imagined. When it's off it looks like polished smoky glass that reflects the candles and the room, and when it's on there's this glowing core with a soft halo around it. My partner was sceptical at first and said it would be too dark, but it's become his favourite light in the house. Packaging was excellent, everything wrapped individually. i have a dark green dining room with a walnut table and this globe is exactly what the room needed. When it's off it's like a big dark marble hanging there reflecting everything, and when it's on you see the bulb glowing inside a warm halo. Guests always ask about it. Over the stairwell
We've got a double height space at the top of the stairs that always looked empty. One 12 inch globe now fills it nicely, and it looks fantastic from the hall below. Glass is evenly tinted, no streaks or bubbles that I can see. Fitting was done by our electrician and he was impressed with how well it was packed. Best purchase for the new flat
When we moved, the flat had a bare bulb hanging in the living room, so this was the first thing I ordered. We chose the 10 inch and I think its the right size for a medium room. The landlord's electrician fitted it for us. The smoky glass gives a realy cosy, slightly retro feel, and its lovely when we have friends round with the big light off. Lovely piece, longer process than planned
Let me be clear first that I really like this light, the smoked glass is beautiful and it looks great above my table. The three stars are about the whole process. I hadn't realized it needed assembling and wiring into the ceiling, I'd somehow imagined I'd be able to put it up myself, so I had to find an electrician, which took a couple of weeks in my area. Then I realized I didn't have an E27 bulb in the house. None of that is hidden on the page, I just rushed my order. On top of that the courier left the box outside in the rain. The box was soggy but the globe inside was wrapped well and completely fine. Now it's finally up it really is lovely in the evenings. Our kitchen island finally has character
We renovated the kitchen this year and went with dark stone worktops and black hardware, then struggled for ages to find pendants that didnt look like every other kitchen. Three of these in the 10 inch size did the trick. We followed the guide on the page, roughly 60 cm between globes and around 75 cm above the counter, and its perfectly balanced over our island. Each globe was packed separately and arrived intact. Our electrician said the fittings were standard and easy to work with. In the evening, with the main lights off and just these on, it feels like a little bar. For actual cooking we use the spotlights, which is how its meant to be used anyway. I wired these myself as I'm qualified, two 10 inch over a rectangular dining table, spaced around 60 cm apart. Everything needed was in the box and the fitting is straightforward once the canopy is off. Ordered the 10 inch for over my desk area and its become the best part of my home office in the evenings. During the day its this sculptural dark ball that reflects the window, and at night I switch it on and its like a lantern. Love the pendant itself, it's a really striking piece over my kitchen table and the glass colour is even all the way round. It just took quite a bit longer to get here than I expected, and I'd already booked the electrician once so had to rebook. Bit of a long one because I did a lot of research before buying. I wanted a smoked globe for over a small round table in a kitchen diner, and most of the ones I found were either tiny or very expensive. This one comes in four sizes and I went for the 10 inch, which turned out to be right for a 90 cm table. The glass is a lovely deep smoky gray and with the bulb off it really does work like a dark mirror. With an amber filament bulb at around 2200K it glows like a coal, gorgeous at dinner. The reason for four stars and not five: I hadn't really taken in that its ambience lighting, so for homework at the table we've added a floor lamp. Lovely, plan the install
Really pleased with how it looks in the living room corner. The glass is a deep grey and the black fitting is neat. Our ceiling is plasterboard so we had to get the hook fixed into a joist, which meant an extra visit from the electrician.
