Bathroom Mirrors

The first look of the morning deserves clear, well-lit glass.

A bathroom mirror has to cope with humidity, light your face without shadows and match the width of the vanity. We offer anti-fog LED rectangles from 20 × 24 to 24 × 31 in (50 × 60 to 60 × 80 cm), a backlit LED oval, a 28 in (70 cm) round mirror with a black metal frame, a mirror with a black shelf for bottles and toothbrushes, and a 24 in (60 cm) LED light to mount above a mirror. For built-in lighting, see our LED and lighted mirrors; for shaving or close-up makeup, our magnifying mirrors.

How wide should a bathroom mirror be over the sink?

The mirror should not be wider than the vanity. Ideally it matches its width, or is 2 to 4 in (5 to 10 cm) narrower on each side. Over a double vanity, you have two options: one large bathroom wall mirror across the full length, or two round or oval mirrors, each centered on a faucet.

Vanity Recommended mirror
Powder room sink 16 to 20 in (40 to 50 cm) 12 to 16 in (30 to 40 cm) round
24 in (60 cm) 20 to 24 in (50 to 60 cm) wide
31 in (80 cm) 28 to 31 in (70 to 80 cm), e.g. a 31 × 24 in (80 × 60 cm) mirror
35 to 39 in (90 to 100 cm) a 35 in (90 cm) bathroom mirror, or a 31 in (80 cm) round
Double vanity 47 to 55 in (120 to 140 cm) 47 in (120 cm), or two mirrors of 24 to 31 in (60 to 80 cm)

For height, leave 6 to 10 in (15 to 25 cm) between the top of the faucet and the bottom of the glass, and place its center at about 63 in (160 cm) from the floor. If people of very different heights share the bathroom, a tall vertical mirror or an oval works for everyone.

Plain mirror or lighted mirror?

A bathroom mirror without lighting leaves you free to choose the light: an LED fixture mounted above the glass, or two sconces on either side. That is the approach for framed mirrors (black metal, thin round frame, the model with shelf). An LED mirror combines glass and light, which simplifies installation and clears the wall. The anti-fog pad built into some models warms the glass slightly so it stays clear when you step out of the shower. Either way, keep a ceiling light: the mirror lights your face, not the room.

Humidity, zones and IP rating: what to check

European wiring rules divide the bathroom into zones around the tub and shower. Within 24 in (60 cm) of them, an electrical fixture must be rated at least IPX4 and carry the required protection class. Outside those zones, IP44 is still recommended for a lighted mirror. Local codes differ, so check the one that applies to you, look at the rating on the product page, and have an electrician make the connection if you have any doubt. For a non-electric mirror, the enemy is water standing on the edges: ventilate after showering and avoid direct splashes. A wood frame belongs near the sink, not against the shower screen.

Shapes and styles for a modern bathroom mirror

A round mirror softens a heavily tiled bathroom; an oval frames the face and suits low ceilings. A rectangle remains the most practical in a small bathroom: it covers a large usable surface without wasting space in the corners. The mirror with a black shelf replaces a separate shelf above a narrow sink. For a Japandi bathroom, pair a light wood frame with a pale countertop and black faucets. For a more graphic look, a thin metal frame is enough. Oval mirrors and round mirrors offer other decorative bathroom mirrors for a sink.

A magnifying mirror on the side

For shaving, tweezing or makeup, a magnifier next to the main mirror saves you from leaning over the sink. The 30x and lighted 10x suction-cup magnifiers attach directly to the glass and come off again. The lighted 10x stand mirror, with a flexible neck, fits on a shelf. Press the suction cup onto clean, dry glass: it holds better and longer.

Care

Limescale is the main issue. Wipe the glass with a microfiber cloth soaked in water and diluted white vinegar, never sprayed straight onto the edges. On an LED mirror, turn off the power before cleaning and never use abrasive products on the light strips.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Sizes, hanging heights, light, shipping: answers to the questions we hear most.

Still have a question? Get in touch
01How high should a bathroom mirror be hung?
Place the bottom of the glass 6 to 10 in (15 to 25 cm) above the faucet and its center at about 63 in (160 cm) from the floor. The top usually ends up between 71 and 79 in (180 and 200 cm). If people of different heights use it, choose a tall vertical mirror.
02What size mirror for a 31 in (80 cm) vanity?
A mirror 28 to 31 in (70 to 80 cm) wide, for example a 28 in (70 cm) round with a black frame. The mirror should not be wider than the vanity, or it will look heavy.
03What IP rating does a lighted bathroom mirror need?
Under European rules, within 24 in (60 cm) of the shower or tub, a fixture must be at least IPX4. Elsewhere in the room, IP44 is still advised. Check the rating on the product page, your local code, and call an electrician if in doubt.
04How do I keep a bathroom mirror from fogging up?
A mirror with an anti-fog pad warms the glass slightly and keeps it clear when you step out of the shower. Without one, ventilate well, run the exhaust fan and squeegee the glass after use.
05How do I clean limescale off a bathroom mirror?
Soak a microfiber cloth in warm water with some white vinegar, wipe without lingering on the edges, then dry with a clean microfiber. Avoid abrasive sponges and ammonia-based cleaners, especially on a wood frame or an LED mirror.
