Arched mirror with a thin brass frame above a travertine console

Light, reflected: mirrors & home lighting.

Wall mirrors that open up and brighten a room; pendant lights, wall sconces and floor lamps that set the mood. Every piece is described by its material, its finish and its exact dimensions.

Shop by shape

Wall mirrors in every shape

Round, arched, oval or organic: the shape of a mirror sets the tone of a room, even before the material does.

Where the light goes

Home lighting at four heights

A comfortable room layers several light sources at different heights. Find your spot on the cross-section, then choose your lighting.

  1. Ceiling

Pendant lights for overall light, in the center of the room or over a table.

  2. Wall

Wall sconces for ambient light at eye level, on either side of a mirror or a bed.

  3. Tabletop

Table lamps for reading and accent light, on a console, a desk or a nightstand.

  4. Floor

Floor lamps for tall light with no drilling, next to a sofa or an armchair.

Proportions

Four numbers worth remembering

The rules of thumb we use to choose a size and a hanging height. They hold true in most rooms.

  1. 2⁄3 of the width

Above a sofa or a console

The mirror spans about two-thirds of the furniture's width: 32–40 in (80–100 cm) wide above a 47 in (120 cm) console.

  2. 59–63 in from the floor

    The center of the mirror

That is eye level: hang the center of the mirror 59–63 in (150–160 cm) from the floor, whatever its size.

  3. ≥ 59 in tall

    A full-length mirror

To see yourself head to toe, choose a mirror at least 59 in (150 cm) tall, or 63–67 in (160–170 cm) if the whole family will use it.

  4. 28–32 in above the table

A pendant light over a table

Leave 28–32 in (70–80 cm) between the tabletop and the bottom of the shade: you can see across the table without glare.

By room

Room by room, mirror and light

Bathroom, living room, bedroom, entryway: the right mirror and the right light, with measurements to go by.

A mirror slightly narrower than the vanity, its bottom edge 6–10 in (15–25 cm) above the faucet, and an IP44 wall sconce on each side at eye level.

A floor lamp by the sofa, a pendant light over the coffee or dining table: light at two heights feels softer than a ceiling fixture alone.

The bottom of the shade at chin height when you sit up in bed: on a 22 in (55 cm) nightstand, a lamp 20–26 in (50–65 cm) tall.

Above a 40 in (100 cm) console, a round or arched mirror 24–32 in (60–80 cm) wide: it doubles the light in the hallway and gives you a last look on the way out.

Questions

Good to know

Sizes, hanging heights, light, shipping: answers to the questions we hear most.

Still have a question? Get in touch
01What size mirror goes above a console or a vanity?

Aim for about two-thirds of the furniture's width: 32–40 in (80–100 cm) above a 47 in (120 cm) console, 20–24 in (50–60 cm) above a 32 in (80 cm) vanity. Leave 6–10 in (15–25 cm) between the furniture and the bottom of the mirror.

02How high should a pendant light hang?

Over a table, allow 28–32 in (70–80 cm) between the tabletop and the bottom of the shade. Over a walkway, keep at least 6 ft 11 in (210 cm) of clearance below the light.

03Which color temperature should I choose?

2700 K for warm, enveloping light (living room, bedroom), 3000 K for soft but crisp light (entryway, kitchen), 4000 K for precise light for makeup or work.

04How do shipping and returns work?

Shipping costs and times are calculated from your address and shown before checkout. You then have at least 14 days after delivery to change your mind.
