Round Mirrors

One curved line, and every corner of the room relaxes.

A round mirror softens a room full of right angles and fits anywhere, from a powder room sink to the wall above a sideboard. Thin gold or black metal frames come in 16, 20 and 24 in (40, 50 and 60 cm) diameters, and the black metal bathroom round goes up to 28 in (70 cm). More boho: an 18 in (45 cm) bamboo mirror hanging from its strap, and a small woven rattan circle mirror with a radiating pattern. For the vanity, the gold round table mirror and the suction-cup magnifiers complete the family. For the bathroom, see the backlit LED round of 20 or 24 in (50 or 60 cm) among our lighted mirrors. For a more elongated shape, look at our oval mirrors.

What size round mirror should you choose?

Above furniture, the diameter is about two thirds of its width. On a bare wall, a round wall mirror can be larger, as long as you keep at least 8 in (20 cm) of free wall on each side.

Location Furniture width Recommended diameter
Powder room, small sink 16 to 20 in (40 to 50 cm) 12 to 16 in (30 to 40 cm)
Single vanity 24 to 31 in (60 to 80 cm) 20 to 24 in (50 to 60 cm)
Entryway console 35 to 47 in (90 to 120 cm) 24 to 31 in (60 to 80 cm)
Dresser, sideboard 55 to 63 in (140 to 160 cm) 39 in (100 cm)
Large sideboard, fireplace, open wall 71 in (180 cm) and more 47 in (120 cm)

A 24 in (60 cm) round mirror is the most versatile size: big enough to see yourself, small enough to go almost anywhere. At 31 in (80 cm), a large round mirror becomes the focal point of a wall.

How high to hang a round mirror

With no furniture below, place the center of the circle 59 to 63 in (150 to 160 cm) from the floor. Above furniture, leave 6 to 10 in (15 to 25 cm) between the top and the bottom of the frame, and center the mirror on the furniture, not on the wall. The round mirror on a strap hangs from a single sturdy hook: the strap stays visible, so adjust its length so the center of the glass lands at the right height. For a rigid-frame round, two fixing points at the top keep the mirror from rotating.

Thin frame, wood or rattan: a round mirror for your style

A thin gold frame suits warm interiors, with wood, velvet or a sage green wall. Black draws a crisp, almost graphic circle on a white or concrete wall. Natural bamboo brings a Japandi note, with linen and ceramics. Rattan, bamboo and a hanging strap evoke a vacation home; the small rattan round, with its radiating pattern, plays a miniature sun. The 16 in (40 cm) gold round slips into a hallway or above a powder room sink.

Room by room: living room, entryway, bedroom, bathroom

In the living room, a 24 in (60 cm) round above a dresser, or two rounds side by side above a low sideboard, rebalances a very horizontal room. In an entryway, a round mirror of 24 to 31 in (60 to 80 cm) above a console, with a lamp and a catch-all tray, is enough to compose the wall. In a bedroom, above a dresser, it softens the straight lines of the bed and closets. In the bathroom, the 28 in (70 cm) black round or the LED round is centered on the sink. For a freer wall, several small rattan rounds can be arranged in a line or a triangle, 2 to 3 in (5 to 8 cm) apart.

Hanging and weight

A 24 in (60 cm) round mirror is about 3 sq ft (0.28 m²) of glass, around 6.5 lb (3 kg) in 4 mm glass, frame not included. The 28 in (70 cm) round is close to 9 lb (4 kg) of glass. Choose anchors suited to your wall and the weight, check their load rating, and use two points beyond about 22 lb (10 kg).

Still have a question? Get in touch
01What size round mirror goes above a console?
For a console of 35 to 47 in (90 to 120 cm), a round of 24 to 31 in (60 to 80 cm) in diameter looks balanced. The diameter should be about two thirds of the console's width. Leave 6 to 10 in (15 to 25 cm) between the top and the bottom of the mirror.
02How high should a round mirror be hung?
On a bare wall, the center of the mirror sits 59 to 63 in (150 to 160 cm) from the floor. Above furniture, leave 6 to 10 in (15 to 25 cm) between the top and the bottom of the frame, and center the mirror on the furniture rather than the wall.
03Round or oval mirror for a bathroom?
A round mirror softens a heavily tiled room and centers easily on a single sink. An oval, taller than it is wide, frames the face better and suits people of different heights. Both work as a pair above a double vanity.
04How much does a 24 in round mirror weigh?
About 6.5 lb (3 kg) of glass for a 4 mm mirror, plus the frame. The exact weight is on the product page. Use suitable anchors and two fixing points so the mirror cannot rotate.
05How do I arrange several small round mirrors?
Trace each circle on kraft paper, tape the templates to the wall and adjust the layout before drilling. Keep an even 2 to 3 in (5 to 8 cm) gap. A horizontal line or a triangle works well above furniture or a bed.
