Vanity Mirrors & Makeup Mirrors

See clearly, up close, in light that tells the truth.

A vanity mirror should show your face in neutral light, and the detail when you need it. Our selection covers the Hollywood LED mirror with bulbs, a freestanding lighted LED makeup mirror, a gold round table mirror that is double-sided and swivels 360°, and magnifiers for precision work: a lighted, rotating 10x with suction cup and a 30x with suction cup. To equip the bathroom, see our bathroom mirrors; for more light, our LED mirrors.

Choosing a magnifying mirror: 5x, 10x or 30x

Magnification enlarges the reflection, but it shrinks the visible area and the focus distance by as much. A 5x suits everyday makeup: complexion, brows, lipstick. A 10x is for precision work: eyeliner, false lashes, tweezing. A 30x shows only a small area, with your face almost against the glass: it is a detail tool, for one precise spot, next to a regular mirror. A double-sided model, with one plain side and one magnifying side, like our gold round table mirror, covers both uses in one object.

The right light for a makeup vanity mirror

Good makeup light comes from the front, evenly, and not only from above, which digs shadows under the eyes and nose. That is the whole point of the Hollywood mirror: its bulbs frame the face. Choose neutral light, around 4000 K, close to daylight: light that is too warm leads to heavier makeup that looks overdone outdoors. If you can, set the vanity near a window, facing it, and keep the lighted makeup mirror for evenings and winter.

Mirror size for your vanity table

On a vanity table 31 to 39 in (80 to 100 cm) wide, a Hollywood mirror or a medium table mirror leaves enough room for brushes and palettes. Avoid glass wider than the tabletop: it looks top-heavy and gets in the way. Seated, your eyes are about 45 to 49 in (115 to 125 cm) from the floor: that is where the center of the glass should be. On a small vanity, a round tabletop mirror is enough, with a magnifier you bring out when needed.

Stand, mount or stick: three ways to install

A tabletop mirror, like the gold round table mirror or the Hollywood, moves and stores away. The lighted 10x mirror with a flexible neck combines both: it stands on the tabletop or attaches with its suction cup. The 30x and lighted 10x suction-cup magnifiers hold on a smooth, non-porous surface such as glass or glazed tile. Clean and dry the surface before attaching them, and avoid painted or textured walls, where suction cups hold poorly.

Caring for makeup mirrors

Powder and hairspray build up quickly on the glass. A slightly damp microfiber with a drop of mild soap is enough, followed by a dry wipe. On gold and metal finishes, avoid abrasive products that scratch the finish. On a lighted model, unplug before cleaning, and let the bulbs of a Hollywood mirror cool down.

Frequently asked questions

Sizes, hanging heights, light, shipping: answers to the questions we hear most.

Still have a question? Get in touch
01What magnification is best for makeup?
A 5x covers everyday makeup: complexion, brows, lips. A 10x suits precision work such as eyeliner or false lashes. A 30x is only for details, used alongside a mirror without magnification.
02What light is best for a vanity mirror with lights?
Neutral light, around 4000 K, coming from the front and lighting the face evenly. Avoid light only from above, which creates shadows. Hollywood mirrors and freestanding LED makeup mirrors are designed for exactly this.
03Do suction-cup magnifying mirrors stick to any wall?
No. Suction cups hold on smooth, non-porous surfaces: mirror glass, glazed tile, glass. They grip poorly on paint, plaster or matte tile. Clean and dry the surface before attaching for a better hold.
04How high should a vanity table mirror be?
Seated, your eyes are usually 45 to 49 in (115 to 125 cm) from the floor. Place the center of the glass at that height. For a tabletop mirror, choose one whose center reaches eye level once it sits on the vanity.
05Does a Hollywood mirror with bulbs get hot?
With LED bulbs it barely warms up, far less than with incandescent bulbs. Still, let them cool for a few minutes before cleaning, and unplug the mirror while you do.
