Description
This cloud pendant light is a 16 × 24 in (40 × 60 cm) paper shade made of wavy, layered paper ruffles that suggest a cumulus floating under the ceiling. Light passes through the paper and spreads as an even halo, with no harsh shadows. At just 7 oz (200 g), it dresses a room without weighing it down. It suits people who love soft, contemporary interiors and want a poetic piece for a bedroom, a living room or a child's room.
Design & materials of a paper shade pendant light
The cloud is made of paper, shaped into crumpled, layered ruffles that catch the light differently along their waves. The result recalls the Japanese art of paper, in a more playful version. The material lets through a milky, very diffused light that erases the bright spot of the bulb. The design, irregular by nature, brings movement to an overly tidy ceiling. This paper pendant light pairs with light wood, linen and bouclé wool, and echoes the rounded lines of organic mirrors.
The light
Paper requires an LED bulb, which runs very cool, kept well away from the sides. A 2700 K warm white LED gives the cloud a soft cream tone; a 3000 K makes it whiter and crisper. The paper spreads all the light into the room but lowers its intensity: this is an ambient pendant, to be paired with a reading lamp if needed.
Where to hang a cloud pendant light
In a child's room, the cloud centered on the ceiling is reassuring at night and creates a decor on its own. In an adult bedroom, set it off-center above the bed, with bedside sconces for reading. In a living room, it floats nicely above a low sofa or a reading chair, away from any heat source. This cloud light pendant is not about power: for a room larger than 215 sq ft (20 m²), pair it with other statement pendant lights rather than asking it to provide all the light.

This is the shade: it fits onto a pendant cord set with a socket, which you will need if you do not already have one. Install it with the breaker off, and have an electrician make the connection if in doubt. In a bedroom, leave at least 7 ft (2.10 m) under the cloud; over a bed, a height of 5 ft (1.50 m) above the mattress keeps you from touching it as you get up.
Care
Paper cannot be washed. Dust it with a feather duster, a wide brush or a hair dryer on the cool setting. Avoid all humidity, the kitchen and the bathroom. Do not rub the ruffles, which can crease. Make sure the lamp is off and cool before each cleaning.

We hung this over our bed, about a meter and a half above the mattress as suggested, and it's just right, no bumping your head getting up. The light it gives is gentle, perfect for winding down. I dust it with a soft brush every few weeks and it still looks new. Really pleased we chose it over a standard shade.

This is a beautiful piece and I'm giving four stars only because of my own situation. We're renting and our bedroom had a flush fitting with no hanging cord, so I had to buy a pendant cord set separately and ask the landlord's electrician to swap it over, which took a couple of weeks to arrange. The page explains clearly that the cloud is the shade only, so no complaints there, I just didn't think it through. Once it was up I couldn't stop staring at it. The paper glows a creamy white with the 2700K bulb I chose and there are no harsh shadows on the walls. It makes the room feel softer and more grown-up. I want to be fair here because I adore how this looks. The cloud hangs in the middle of our bedroom and in the day it's a soft sculpture, at night a milky halo. The ruffles are crisp and held their shape after I fluffed them out on the kitchen table. Where I've knocked a star off is on how much light it gives. The page does say it's an ambient pendant and that the paper lowers the intensity, but I'd hoped it would be our main light. It isn't really, for a room our size. I spent ages looking for a light for our bedroom that wasn't another boring dome, and this paper cloud was the one I kept going back to. It arrived flat in a slim box, which threw me for a second, but unfolding it was actually quite satisfying. I cleared the dining table and took my time pulling the ruffles out, maybe forty minutes in total. My partner fitted it to the cord and socket we already had hanging there. We used a 2700K LED like the page suggests and kept it centred so it doesn't touch the paper. At night it gives this milky, soft glow and each ruffle catches the light a little differently. It's definitely ambient light rather than reading light, so we kept our bedside lamps. Friends always ask about it when they come over.

Took my time, worth it
I live in a small studio and wanted one light that felt special without taking over. This cloud does exactly that. The box is surprisingly flat and light, and I'll admit I was nervous opening it because the ruffles looked so delicate. I followed the advice and shaped it on a big clean table, working round the edges slowly. It took about an hour because I kept stopping to admire it.
