Description
This jute flush mount light pairs a shade hand-woven from straw and jute with an iron frame. Fixed close to the ceiling, it gives off a warm, filtered light that draws the pattern of the weave on the walls. It recalls country houses and village cafés, with a very current simplicity. In a kitchen, a dining room or an entryway, it warms the room the moment you switch it on. It suits boho, country and japandi interiors that love natural materials.
Design and materials of this jute flush mount light
The shade is hand-woven from straw and jute, two plant fibers with an irregular grain: each piece shows slight variations, the sign of handwork. The iron frame gives this woven flush mount light its structure and shape. The natural color, between honey and coffee, pairs with wood, linen, terracotta and off-white. If you were looking for a raffia ceiling light, straw and jute offer the same natural-fiber spirit, with an open weave that lets the light through. Lit, the weave filters the light into fine rays.
The light
It takes a single E27 bulb, not included. Choose a 2700 K warm white LED: it deepens the honey tone of the straw and does not heat the fiber. Avoid incandescent bulbs, which run too hot against a plant-fiber weave. The light is not dimmable. The weave filters the light and casts a soft pattern, ideal for a room of 55 to 110 sq ft (5 to 10 m²).
Where to put a jute ceiling light
In a kitchen, above the table, it brings the warmth a standard ceiling light often lacks. In an entryway or a low-ceilinged hallway, its flush mounting means no bumped heads. In a boho bedroom, pair it with linen bedding and a rattan headboard. Above a countertop, line up two to cover the full length; as a woven flush mount, it repeats well. For a hanging version, browse our pendant lights.

Size and installation
- Mounting: surface-mounted, on the ceiling.
- Assembly: required.
- Package weight: about 2.2 lb (1 kg).
The light fixes directly to the ceiling, at a cable outlet. It arrives ready to assemble: you will need a screwdriver, a sturdy step ladder and anchors suited to the ceiling. Turn off the power at the breaker before you start and call an electrician if you are not comfortable with the wiring. Because it sits flush against the ceiling, it suits low ceilings, where a pendant would get in the way.
Care
Turn off the power and let the bulb cool. Dust the shade with a soft brush or a vacuum with a soft brush attachment, on low. Do not use water: straw and jute can warp or stain when damp. In a kitchen, dust it more often, as cooking grease makes dust cling.

Love this in the guest room. The light coming through the weave is gentle and the shadows on the cieling look like a summer evening. Guests always comment on it.

We moved into an old cottage with low beamed ceilings, and I've hit my head on more pendant lights than I care to admit. This flush mount was exactly what we needed for the kitchen. It fixes right against the ceiling, so there's nothing to duck under. The shade is woven straw and jute on an iron frame, and the color sits somewhere between honey and coffee, wich works beautifully with our old wooden beams. Putting it together needed a screwdriver and a sturdy step ladder, and I bought anchors suited to our ceiling as the page suggests. Our electrician did the wiring. With a 2700K LED it gives a soft, warm light and lovely patterns on the walls. Since it's in the kitchen I dust it with the soft brush on the vacuum every so often!

Country cafe feel
We have a small dining room with exposed brick and a scrubbed pine table, and this light makes it feel like a little village café. The straw and jute are a warm honey to coffee colour, with slight variations here and there that show its woven by hand. At night the weave breaks the light into fine rays across the ceiling. Our electrician mounted it straight onto the existing outlet. Bulb isnt included so we picked up a warm white LED.Natural

Ordered two for over our long kitchen counter, as the description says they repeat well, and it's true. They look like a matching pair of woven baskets on the ceiling, in the nicest way. We used warm LED bulbs which bring out the honey tone. Our electrician did both in an afternoon. I dust them more often because of the cooking, a soft brush does the job.

Warm and natural

Bought it for our entryway. It's the first thing you see when you open the door and it sets a warm, welcoming tone straight away. Light is soft, which is what we wanted there.

The pattern this throws on the walls at night is the best part. Little lines of light all over the kitchen ceiling and walls. We used a 2700K bulb and the straw goes a lovely honey color.

Lovely woven texture

Really pretty in our boho bedroom. I'd have liked a darker version too, to match the other furniture, but the natural one has grown on me. Soft light, nice weave shadows.

Gorgeous light. The box was a bit crushed when it arrived, but the shade inside was protected and kept its shape. Took a bit of fiddling to assemble. Love the honey color.

The weave casts such pretty patterns at night, my kids call it the sunshine light.

Natural and warm
I'm a bit fussy about natural materials and I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The straw and jute weave has that slightly uneven grain you get with plant fibres, and no two strands look quite the same. The iron frame keeps the shape crisp. We put it above our dining table, where the old light was a harsh bare fitting, and the room feels completely different now, softer and cosier. I chose a warm white LED as recommended, because the page says incandescent bulbs run too hot against the fibre. The light isn't super bright, it's more of a mood light, so we have a floor lamp in the corner for reading. Fitting took my partner about an hour including assembly. Really happy with it and I'm thinking about a second one for the hallway.Natural

i've been slowly turning my bedroom boho, rattan headboard, linen everything, and the ceiling light was the last ugly thing left. this jute one fixed it. the weave is a bit irregular which i love because it looks natural, not factory perfect. my dad and i assembled it with a screwdriver and he did the wiring since he knows what hes doing. it gives a soft warm light, not super bright, but perfect for the bedroom

Good looking light and it feels sturdy for something woven. Took a star off because the delivery was slower than quoted and the tracking didn't move for a few days. Once it arrived, assembly was fine with a screwdriver and the step ladder, and our electrician connected it quickly. The warm light through the weave really suits our bedroom.

Lovely shade, colour is a little darker than in the photos but still nice.

Beautiful light, but it's a mains connection so we had to wait for an electrician to come and fit it, which took a week to arrange. Bulb also not included. Worth it though, the warm glow is gorgeous.

Allow time to assemble
Looks great now, but putting the frame and shade together took longer than expected.Natural

Thanks for the tip, Isaac. A bit of patience on assembly pays off, and we're glad it looks great now.

Pretty light, but assembly took us ages and the instructions were very basic.

Our hallway ceiling is really low and every pendant we tried got in the way. This sits right up against the ceiling so nobody bumps it, and it looks so much warmer than the old white dome!!

Kitchen upgrade
Replaced a flat plastic ceiling light in the kitchen with this. The difference is night and day. Took about forty minutes to assemble and fit with the breaker off, plus a couple of anchors for our plaster ceiling.Natural

Wife picked it, I fitted it. Both happy with the result.

I was worried a woven shade would look messy but it's neat and well shaped, the iron frame holds it nicely. It goes with our terracotta pots and off-white walls perfectly.
