Description
This black square outdoor wall light has a compact, clean-cut silhouette in lacquered aluminum. IP65 rated, it goes on a facade, by a porch or a garage door, and gives off 6 W of warm white light. It is aimed at modern or industrial-style homes that want neat, no-frills lighting to match dark window frames. Its modest size lets you repeat it along a wall without weighing down the facade.
Design and materials of these square outdoor wall lights
The housing is aluminum, a light metal that does not rust. Its black finish is oven-baked lacquer, a process that gives an even color that holds up to the weather. The square volume, with sharp edges, echoes contemporary architecture: it pairs with aluminum window frames, wood siding and gray render. The diffuser, also aluminum alloy, hides the source and directs the light toward the wall. On a light facade, this small dark block makes a graphic counterpoint; on a charcoal wall, it almost disappears and only the light shows.
The light
The 6 W LED source is integrated and included: nothing else to buy. It shines warm white, a tone that softens materials and makes arriving home feel welcoming, far from the harsh glare of floodlights. It is not dimmable. The light screws to the wall and connects to the outdoor circuit. Leave this wiring to an electrician, on a line protected by a GFCI/RCD. You will need a drill, masonry anchors and a level. To light a doorstep, mount it about 71 in (180 cm) from the ground; above a garage door, center it 8 to 12 in (20 to 30 cm) above the header.
Care
Turn off the power before working on it. A soft, slightly damp cloth removes dust and cobwebs; then dry the surface. Use no solvent and no abrasive sponge, which could scratch the black lacquer. Once or twice a season is enough to keep the finish even.

We had our front elevation redone with grey render and new dark window frames, and the old fussy lantern by the door just looked wrong. I wanted something small, square and modern, and these fit the bill. We put a pair either side of the front door at roughly 1.8 m, and one centred above the garage door. Our electrician wired them into the outdoor circuit with the protected line, which I'd recommend leaving to a pro. The LED is built in so there was nothing else to buy. The light is a warm white that washes down the wall rather than blinding you, so the front of the house looks welcoming at night without feeling like a car park. They've been through some heavy rain already and look exactly as they did on day one. The black lacquer is even and smart, and they're compact enough that three on one wall don't look busy.
