Description

This round wall sconce fits in the palm of your hand: a crisp, compact 5 in (13 cm) black metal disc that all but disappears into the wall when it is off. Switched on, its warm light spills out from behind the disc and draws a circular halo on the wall. It is meant for anyone who wants to bring a hallway, an entryway or a headboard wall to life without adding a bulky object. Two versions are available: a standard wall switch or touch control.

Design and materials of this round wall sconce

The body is metal, aluminum and iron, in a matte black finish. Its circular shape has no shade and no visible diffuser, on purpose: all you see is a flat disc standing slightly off the wall. The light does the decorating. On a pale wall, each round sconce wraps itself in a glowing ring, softer or sharper depending on the surface. Limewash or painted brick bring out the texture; a smooth wall gives a cleaner outline. As a modern black sconce, it pairs with metal window frames, thin picture frames and japandi or warm modern interiors, where it adds a dark accent.

The light

The source is a warm white LED aimed at the wall behind the disc. Like other black LED wall lights built for an indirect glow, it is not for reading: it sets a mood, outlines a space and leads the eye along a wall. Warm white softens surfaces and suits living rooms as well as bedrooms. It is not dimmable. For a consistent ambiance, keep the other bulbs in the room around 2700 to 3000 K.

Where to put your round LED wall lights

In a hallway, line up three or four sconces about 5 ft (1.5 m) apart: the rhythm of the halos makes the space feel longer. In an entryway, a pair on either side of a 24 in (60 cm) round mirror creates a simple, warm symmetry. The sconce mounts directly to the wall and connects to an existing wire outlet. Turn off the power at the breaker before any work, and call an electrician if you are not comfortable with the wiring. You will need a drill, anchors suited to your wall and a level. In a hallway, mount it about 67 in (170 cm) from the floor so the halo has room to open up. Both versions are indoor models: keep it to dry rooms.

Care

Turn off the power and let it cool before cleaning. A soft, dry cloth is enough to remove dust from the lacquered metal. For a mark, use a barely damp cloth, then dry right away. Avoid abrasive cleaners and sprays aimed at the back of the disc, which could dull the black finish.

01What is the difference between the two versions of this round wall sconce?
The light and design are identical. The standard version turns on from the room's wall switch. The touch version has a touch control on the sconce itself, handy by the bed or wherever the switch is far away.
02Can I install it in a bathroom or outdoors?
No. Both versions are indoor models and no IP rating is given. Keep it to dry rooms such as a hallway, entryway, bedroom or home office, away from any splashing water.
03Do I need to buy a bulb?
No. The sconce uses an integrated warm white LED that lights the wall behind the disc. There is no bulb to screw in and no standard base to choose.
04How high should I mount a round sconce?
Plan on about 67 in (170 cm) from the floor in a hallway or entryway, so the halo can open up on the wall. By the bed, mount it 28 to 31 in (70 to 80 cm) above the mattress, set slightly back from the edge of the bed.

  2. Lovely light, longer than planned

    The sconces themselves are lovely and I'm happy with how they look, so please don't let the three stars put you off. It's about the timeline. Delivery took nearly three weeks and then I found out my electrician was booked up, so the whole project took far longer than I wanted. Once they were in, the halo effect on our bedroom wall was exactly what I'd hoped for, soft and warm.

  5. We renovated our hallway last year and I wanted wall lights that would add some atmosphere without taking up space, since it's quite narrow and people walk past with bags and coats all day. Most sconces stick out a fair way from the wall, but these 5 inch discs sit close to it and just throw the light backwards onto the wall. We put three of them about a metre and a half apart at around 170 cm from the floor, which is what the listing recommended, and the effect is lovely. Each one gives a circle of warm light, and together they make the corridor feel longer and more welcoming. Our walls are painted brick and the texture comes out nicely in the glow. We went for the standard switch version so they all come on together from the hallway switch. My electrician wired them in an afternoon. They're not for task lighting, but that's not what we bought them for. In the evening we often just leave these on instead of the ceiling light.
