Description
This outdoor gooseneck barn light reaches out on a curved arm ending in a black metal shade that faces the ground. It recalls the lamps of barns and workshops, with their useful light placed exactly where it is needed. Above a front door, a garage or a patio, it draws a circle of light and gives the facade character. It suits country houses as well as industrial interiors, outside and in.
Design and materials of this outdoor gooseneck barn light
This gooseneck outdoor wall light is all metal with a black finish: the wall plate, the gooseneck arm and the flared shade. The curve of the arm holds the shade away from the wall and creates a recognizable silhouette, somewhere between an old shop sign and a factory light. The black pairs with dark window frames, stone, wood siding, brick or white render. For a black barn light outdoor that ties in with the facade, repeat the black on the mailbox or the house numbers. Indoors, it also works above a countertop.
The light
It takes an E27 bulb, not included. A 2700 K warm white LED gives the facade a welcoming light and attracts fewer insects than cool white. The shade directs the beam downward, lighting the doorstep without dazzling the neighbors. A 600 to 800 lumen bulb is enough for an entrance. For a visible bulb, a vintage-look LED filament bulb strengthens the barn style.
Where to put gooseneck exterior wall lights
At the entrance, mount one on each side of the door, at equal distances, to frame the doorstep. Above a garage door, line up two or three about 5 ft (1.5 m) apart. On a covered patio, it lights the outdoor table with focused light, without spilling over the whole yard. Indoors, above a wooden countertop or an island, it brings a workshop feel. Size and installation

The light fixes to the wall on its plate, then connects to a cable outlet. Turn off the power at the breaker and call an electrician for any outdoor wiring. The manufacturer describes it as water-resistant, but no IP rating is given in our data: check the rating marked on the product and favor a sheltered spot, under an awning. Mount it about 71 to 79 in (1.80 to 2 m) from the ground, on each side of the door or above it.
Care
Turn off the power and let the bulb cool. Remove dust and cobwebs with a soft brush. Clean the black metal with a damp cloth and a little mild soap, then dry. Once a year, check that the fixings are tight if it is exposed to the weather.

We live in an old stone cottage and I wanted outdoor lighting that didn't look modern or fussy. These gooseneck lights were exactly the style I had in mind. I ordered three: one over the back door, one by the side gate and one above the log store, all tucked under the eaves because the listing advises a sheltered spot and doesn't give an IP rating. Our electrician fitted them to the junction boxes in a morning. They're all metal and feel sturdy, and the black finish looks great against the grey stone. I used vintage-style filament LEDs in warm white and the effect at night is lovely, soft but bright enough to see the path. The shade directs the light down so there's no glare across the garden. Front door glow-up

Industrial kitchen vibe
We used two of these indoors on the wall above our kitchen counter. I know they're mainly sold as outdoor lights but the page says they work over a countertop too. The curved arms reach out and the shades point straight down onto the worktop, which is great task light for chopping. We went with warm white LED bulbs so it doesn't feel clinical. We were redoing the front of the house with new black guttering and a black door, and these were the last piece of the puzzle. I bought two to frame the door, about 1.9 m off the ground like the page suggests. They throw a nice circle of light down onto the step and the path, so no more fumbling for keys. Porch upgrade
Our porch had a sad little bulkhead light that came with the house. We swapped it for one of these, mounted centerd above the door under the overhang. We've been restoring an old farmhouse for two years and outside lighting kept getting pushed down the list. I finally ordered four of these: two either side of the main door and two on the barn we use as a garage. I looked at a lot of barn lights and this one had the nicest curve to the arm for the money. Fitted one over our side entrance under the roof overhang. It's all metal, the paint is smooth and even, and with a 2700K bulb it gives a warm pool of light on the step. Took the electrician about twenty minutes. Bought this to replace a rusty old fitting by my garage side door. The gooseneck holds the shade well clear of the wall and the light goes straight down onto the path. It's metal throughout and the black finish is even, no thin patches.
