Description
This bedside reading light clips straight onto the headboard, a shelf or the edge of a desk and aims its LED light where you read. Black and compact, it frees the nightstand completely, or replaces it in a bedroom with no room for one. It is made for evening readers, studios and dorm rooms, and for anyone who prefers precise light on the page to a diffuse glow across the room.
Design and materials of this clip-on reading light
Black gives this small lamp the look of a workshop lamp, plain and functional. Its clamp means no screws and no drilling: the jaw grips a ledge, comes off and goes back on elsewhere in seconds. On a raw wood, rattan or linen-upholstered headboard, the black clip adds a graphic, almost industrial detail that balances soft materials. In a clip-on reading light without ornament, the line is what matters: discreet by day, useful at night, with plain bedding and a wool reading throw.
The light of a bedside reading light
The source is a built-in 5 W LED, included. Its output falls in the 249 to 2000 lumen range: a clear, focused light made to light a book or notebook without waking the person asleep beside you, as long as you aim it at the page. For evening reading, light around 3000 K stays comfortable, neither too yellow nor too blue. It has no battery: it stays plugged in, so there is nothing to recharge.
Where to put it
In a narrow bedroom, use it as a clip on bed light on the headboard instead of adding a nightstand: you gain 16 in (40 cm) of floor space. On a loft bed or bunk bed, attach it to the rail on the side away from the ladder. On a student desk, it clamps to the edge of the top or to a shelf above the screen. In the living room, clipped to a bookcase next to an armchair, it creates a reading corner with no floor lamp. If you prefer a lamp on the nightstand, look at the black swing arm lamp or all our bedside lamps.

Size and installation
It arrives in a 13 × 4.5 × 3 in (33 × 12 × 8 cm) box weighing 0.75 lb (0.34 kg) with packaging: a light lamp that will not tip a shelf. The clamp grips a flat, rigid ledge; check that it is thin enough for the jaw, and slip a piece of felt between the clamp and delicate wood to avoid marks. Position the head a little above your shoulder, on the side of your free hand, so the shadow of your hand does not fall on the page. It runs on a direct current (DC) power supply, so plan for an outlet nearby.
Care
Unplug the lamp first. Dust the head and arm with a soft, dry cloth, and the jaw of the clamp with a dry brush to remove fibers. Keep water and household cleaners away from the electrical parts. If the clamp marks the surface, add a thin adhesive felt pad.

Reader's best friend
I read for at least an hour every night and my husband falls asleep the second his head hits the pillow, so bedside lamps have always been a source of tension in our house. This little black clip light has solved it. It grips the edge of our wooden headboard on my side, and I aimed the head down at my book, just above my shoulder like the listing suggests. The light is clear and focused, it stays on the page and doesn't spill across to his side, so he sleeps through it. I put a little bit of felt under the jaw to protect the wood, as recommended, and there are no marks. It plugs into the socket behind the bed. There's no battery, so nothing to charge, which suits me because I'd forget. It's also freed up my nightstand, which now only has my glasses and a glass of water on it. For the price it's one of the best things I've bought for the bedroom.Black

i didnt think a little clip light would make such a difference but it really has. i read every night and my old lamp lit up the whole room and kept my boyfriend awake. this one clamps to the headboard and the light stays on my book. it plugs in, no battery, which i prefer. black looks really neat too. would definately recommend for anyone sharing a bed

Ideal for a bunk bed
My two kids share a room with bunk beds and the top one had no light at all. I clipped this onto the rail away from the ladder, as the listing suggests, and now my eldest can read before sleep. The light is focused so it doesnt keep the little one awake below. its light and easy to move, and the clamp is strongBlack

Brilliant for a small bedroom
Our bedroom is so small that the bed is wedged between two walls, and there was literally no floor space for bedside tables. I'd been reading by the light of my phone, which isn't great. This little black light clamps onto the edge of the headboard. Make sure your headboard is thin and flat enough for the jaw before buying, as the description warns. Mine is a simple wooden one and it fits well. I slipped a bit of felt underneath to protect the finish. The light itself is a focused LED that lights the page brightly without bothering my partner. I like that it plugs in rather than relying on batteries, there's nothing to charge and it's always ready. The black finish looks smart and a bit industrial against our pale bedding. It's been a few months now and I've used it every single night. For such a small thing, it's made our bedroom much more comfortable to live in. My sister liked it so much she ordered one for her son's bunk bed.Black

Thanks Jade, a loft bed rail is a great spot for it. Happy reading to your son!

My studio apartment has a bed squeezed into a corner with no room for a side table. This clamps onto the bookshelf next to the bed and lights my book nicely. Black looks neat and simple.

Now it lives on the bookcase by my armchair, and I've got a reading corner without a floor lamp. The light is clear and focused, perfect for evenings with a novel.

Clever little light
I'm a renter, so I can't drill into anything, and my landlord's furniture is quite old. When I moved into this flat, the bedroom came with a bed and a wardrobe and nothing else, so I needed a reading light that didn't need a nightstand or a screw in the wall. This clip-on light does the job. The clamp holds firmly on the headboard and comes off without leaving a mark when I need to move it. I aimed the head so the light falls on my book and not into my eyes, and it's very comfortable for reading at night. It plugs into the wall socket next to the bed, so check you have one nearby. The black finish is simple and plain, so it doesn't clash with anything. I've also clipped it to the kitchen shelf a couple of times when I was reading a recipe, which was handy. Great value.Black

Nice light, but my headboard was a bit thick so I clipped it to a shelf.

I clipped it onto the edge of my desk for evening work. It lights my notebook clearly without lighting up the whole room, which is what I wanted. Very light and easy to move to another spot!!!

No more balancing lamps
I had a table lamp balanced on a stack of books by my bed for months becuase there's no space for a nightstand. This clamp light grips my headboard firmly, and it was up in seconds with no drilling. The LED is bright and clear, and since it's aimed at the page, my partner barely notices it. Black matches my bed frame. Big improvement for very little money.Black

Got this for my daughter's dorm room as she has no space for a lamp on her desk. She clamps it to the shelf above and says it's perfect for late night studying.

Our spare room is tiny with no space for bedside tables, so this clamps onto the headboard instead. Light is focused right on the page. Guests have all said it's handy.
