Description
This outdoor table lamp takes the shape of a small lantern in black cut-out metal. By day, its solar panel charges the battery; in the evening, the LED comes on and the cut-outs in the metal cast patterns of light onto the table and the ground. No cord, no outlet: you set it on a patio table, a step or a balcony ledge. It is made for people who want a summer-evening mood outdoors, without electrical work or candles to relight.
Design and materials
The body is metal with a black finish, pierced with patterns that play with the light. Off, the lantern stays a graphic decorative object; lit, it covers the surface around it with shadows and points of light. The black goes with metal patio furniture, teak, stone and terracotta pots. As a solar table lamp with a design angle, it avoids the plastic look of typical garden stake lights. Set several at different heights for a richer arrangement.
The light
The source is an included LED, powered by the battery that the solar panel recharges. The brightness is not adjustable. This is ambient light, meant to set a scene rather than to light a path or a work table. The cut-outs in the metal break up the beam and draw patterns around the lantern. The effect is best at dusk, on a pale surface: a linen tablecloth, light paving or a white wall.
Where to put it
On a patio, set two or three in the middle of the garden table in place of candle holders. On a balcony, line them up along the ledge or at the foot of the planters. In the garden, place them on a step or along a path to mark the way for guests. This solar lamp can also come indoors, on a sunny windowsill. For indoor light, see our table lamps.

Size and installation of the outdoor table lamp
- Power: solar panel and included battery.
- Package weight: about 11 oz (300 g), in a 6 × 6 × 4.5 in (15 × 15 × 11 cm) box.
- Mounting: freestanding, no fixing.
Put the lamp somewhere that gets several hours of direct sun during the day, panel facing the sky. The longer the sunshine, the longer the light lasts in the evening. Before first use, let it charge for a full day in the sun. It is light, so set it on a stable surface, sheltered from gusts. No IP rating is given in our product data: bring it in or shelter it in heavy rain or frost.
Care
Wipe the solar panel regularly with a damp cloth: dust and pollen reduce charging. Dust the metal cut-outs with a soft brush. Check that water does not pool around the panel after a shower. In winter, store it somewhere sheltered and dry to protect the battery.

Bought three for our balcony ledge. They charge during the day and in the evening the little cut-outs throw patterns all over the wall. So much nicer than candles that blow out.

Better than candles
We used to light tea lights on the patio table and spent half the evening relighting them in the breeze. These solar lanterns solved that. Put them in the sun during the day and they're ready when we sit down for dinner. The black metal looks smart with our teak table and the shadows they cast on the tablecloth are lovely.Black

Charge it first
Nice lantern. I forgot to give it a full day in the sun first, my fault. Lovely since.Black

Little lanterns, big mood
We have a small courtyard garden and I've tried all sorts of fairy lights and stake lights, which always end up looking a bit plasticky. These metal lanterns are different. They feel like proper decorative pieces even in the daytime, black and graphic on the table. I let them charge for a full day in the sun before using them, like the instructions say, and since then they come on each evening and glow away while we sit outside. The light isn't meant to be bright, it's more about atmosphere, and the cut-out patterns on our pale paving are gorgeous. I bring them in when heavy rain is forecast, which takes two seconds as they're so light. I've ordered two more for the steps.Black

Sweet, just soft light
Lovely little lantern. It's very much mood lighting, not bright enough to read by, which the listing does say. I'd hoped it would light the path a bit more, but it looks beautiful on the table.Black

Thanks Emily. It's designed as ambient light, so the table is its happy place. Glad it looks beautiful there!
